Tristar Group has signed firm contracts for six new build 25,000 MT DWT, IMO Type 2 Oil and Chemical Tankers with South Korea’s premier shipbuilder, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. The vessels will be delivered between the middle of May 2020 till the first week of January 2021. The vessels have been ordered on the back of long-term charter contracts with oil major Shell.
Tristar Group CEO Eugene Mayne (center) was invited to participate in a panel discussion at the Future Blockchain Summit held at Dubai World Trade Centre. Mr Mayne discussed Tristar’s digital strategy and pioneering work with Blockchain in the region and how Tristar is leveraging the technology to provide a world class service to its customers. Tristar has been recognized for being the first logistics company in the Gulf Cooperating Council (GCC) to have a fully live Blockchain platform, which provides customers with full real-time oversight on end-to-end warehousing and transportation processes. Blockchain technology is being leveraged at Tristar for business relationships as a single point of access for all documents/records, and the managing of trusted data with little or no use of paper.
Tristar has been awarded the Dubai Chamber CSR Label by the Dubai Chamber Center for Responsible Business for the third time. Tristar Group Chief Administrative Officer and CSR Steering Committee Chairman Balaji Nagabhushan received the certificate from Dubai Chamber Chairman H.E. Majid Saif Al Ghurair during an awarding ceremony. The CSR Label Team said in their final remarks in the Feedback Report: “We congratulate you for achieving the Dubai Chamber CSR Label. Tristar has demonstrated a strong commitment to CSR and taken practical measures to ensure that CSR is an integral part of the company’s operations. Congratulations!”
Tristar Group IT Head Adam Lalani received his 4th top CIO award at the Computer News Middle East (CNME) and TahawulTech.com’s 5th annual CIO 100 Awards ceremony held in Dubai where he gave a presentation as one of the event’s keynote speakers on Blockchain. Lalani won the same award last year, plus two more similar recognitions – Best CIO in Transportation & Logistics at Enterprise Channels MEA Catalyst Awards 2018 and Top CIO200 Award 2018 from Enterprise Channels MEA. He attributed the awards to the efforts of the entire Tristar IT Department and Group CEO Eugene Mayne’s vision of making the company a fully integrated liquid logistics leader driven by technology.
Tristar Group CEO Mayne (3rd right) received the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock Global Award for Corporate Social Responsibility’ from the Institute Of Directors (IOD), in Mumbai, India. Maharashtra State Cabinet Minister for Housing Department Prakash Mehta handed the award together with officers of the IOD. The Golden Peacock Awards are now recognized as the hallmark of corporate excellence worldwide, because of their independence, integrity, transparency. Tristar’s latest award is an addition to its collection of CSR awards from Arabia CSR Network, Supply Chain and Transport Awards and Maritime Standard Awards.
Tristar Group’s JV in Saudi Arabia, United Stars, has signed two agreements with SABIC to provide transport services. United Stars will transport MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether), Caustic Soda and other chemicals from the SABIC plants in Jubail in the Eastern Province to SABIC customers inside the Kingdom, Gulf Cooperating Council (GCC) and Jordan. The logistics provider will also transport gases such LIN, CO2 and Argon from Jubail and Yanbu in the Western Province to different SABIC customers in the Kingdom and GCC using specialized gas tanks.
The Health and Safety Department of Dubai Municipality recognized Tristar for ‘Ensuring Occupational Health and Safety within Your Organization for the Year 2018’ during the ‘Safety in Sustainability Forum’ held last December 18, 2018. Tristar is the only logistics transport company which received the award. The rest were from Dubai Police, Dubai Ambulance, Dubai Human Resources Department, and a number of companies from the construction and other industries.
Tristar Group participated in a historic tree plantation ceremony at the Emirates Environmental Group’s (EEG) ‘For Our Emirates We Plant’ event in the Special Bee Reserve – Al Minae- South of Ras Al Khaimah. Tristar representatives Peter Pereira, HSE Officer, and Ashwatha Mahesh, Asst. Manager for CSR and Sustainability, planted two Sidr trees. The Sidr tree is strong, long-standing and evergreen indigenous tree with medicinal values and flowers known to attract and provide for bees.
The Tristar Group has committed to ban non-reusable plastic materials in its shipping operations at SOHAR Port and Freezone commencing 2019. This was announced at the Sohar Safety Summit with the theme ‘Drive Change in Safety Culture’ which was attended by Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC) officials and users of the Port of Sohar Service jetty. Tristar Ship Management General Manager Henri de Gersigny said: ‘We at Tristar are committed to support the 2018 World Environment Day theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ by refusing items that cannot be reused.” He also urged the participants to support the desired change by getting involved in keeping the environment clean and improving the health of their personnel.
The UAE, Oman, Pakistan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Somalia and Kenya operations of Tristar commemorated World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims by organizing internal and external awareness activities on road safety. In Dubai, the HSE Team launched the campaign ‘My reason for safety… I want to go home to my family every day’ before drivers at the staff accommodation. There are almost 1.3 million deaths from road accidents every year according to the World Health Organization.
