The Tristar Haiti team went into action beyond the call of duty when it rendered defueling services to a crashed Brazilian aircraft at the international airport in the capital Port-Au-Prince. The Tristar operation started at about 3:30 pm and continued without any tea break nor dinner provision at the runway area until winding up at 2:30 am, the next day. The team defueled 23,050 liters from the ‘starboard side’ and 12,927 liters from the ‘port side.’
Tristar Transport LLC received two road and safety awards from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents or RoSPA last May 16 in Birmingham, UK. These are the 2013 RoSPA Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR) Trophy and the 2013 RoSPA Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety. This is the second consecutive year Tristar has been recognized for its road and safety standards by RoSPA whose mission is to save lives and reduce injuries.
Tristar received the “Highly Commended Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year” award at this year’s Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA). The company was shortlisted together with Care by Air (winner), Landmark Group, TNT Express and DHL Express. According to the judges, Tristar has been doing amazing CSR work through its road safety campaigns and in sponsoring of schools in Africa.
Tristar was the sponsor of the annual walkathon event of the Filipino community which saw the participation of more than 400 people, some of them from other countries, last March 22 at Safa Park. The 7th edition was also attended by Philippine Consul General Frank Cimafranca.
Group CEO Eugene Mayne presented the 5-year strategic business plan before more than 30 senior managers coming from various countries and group functions at the first ever Tristar Leadership Summit. The gathering was held at the Tristar Head Office Training Room and Jebel Ali Resort on December 12 and 13, respectively. Aside from listening to the various yearend accomplishments, the senior managers participated in several team building activities and workshops on both days.
Group CEO Eugene Mayne spoke at the World Forum in Lille, France on Responsible Business on 15th November. He shared some Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives Tristar has implemented in local communities where it operates. Mr. Mayne was one of the speakers on the forum on ‘Responsible Entrepreneurship: creating a positive image of entrepreneurs, and encouraging young entrepreneurs to contribute to sustainability.’ Giving back is also getting back explained Mr. Mayne citing how the company has also benefitted from the goodwill of the people while operating in difficult and often dangerous environments in the developing world.
Tristar Transport was recognized by the international health and safety professionals’ group IOSH on October 18 for its campaigns improving the safety performance of all Tristar drivers. Tristar was given the ‘campaign of the year’ award for highlighting critical steps for vehicle pre-trip inspection, driving, loading, and offloading under the Check Every Step campaign which reminds drivers to avoid carelessness, compromise and complacency. It also received a plaque for being a finalist under the category of ‘Best Achievement in Transport and Logistics’ for promoting the ‘My Reason for Safety …My Family’ road safety campaign in 2011.
The Annual Tristar Blood Donation for Jebel Ali Industrial Area-based professionals and workers was held on 5th September. The medical staff from the Dubai Blood Donation Center (DBDC) of the Dubai Health Authority conducted the blood donation. DBDC is the only blood supplier in Dubai. Some doctors and scientists believe that giving blood may prevent heart disease. Although no conclusive evidence is available, numerous physicians have noted that blood donors typically have fewer cases of heart disease than non-donors.
Two groups from Tristar offered voluntary services in this year’s edition of the Adopt-A-Camp wherein 5,050 ‘Care Packages’ and other goods were distributed to over 10,000 laborers in Dubai on 9th August. The first batch was composed of corporate staff who helped unload hundreds of boxes containing food items, home apparels and personal hygiene products at one of the exhibition halls of the Dubai World Trade Center.
Another feather has been added on Tristar’s cap when it was awarded the ‘Shell Best Haulier of the Year 2011’ during a ceremony hosted by Shell at the Crowne Plaza Muscat Hotel in Oman on 26th June. Tristar was selected as the best haulier for its consistent performance in 2011 in the areas of compliance with Shell global standards, operational excellence, customer service, and social performance, among others.
